Default Necro/Elem is it worth it?

I'm playing Prophecy and am still Pre-Searing
I know that most people choose Monk or Mesmer and I don't see the point of useing Ranger or Warrior but I not sure if taking Elementalist as my 2nd class for the fire and wind spells is worth it or not?

Any and all advice wanted

i wouldn't call it horrible per say you could do worse, but i prefer a ranger with nevermore flat bow, very easy to kill char at higher levels. im worried you might not have enough energy to cast most of the spells, specially like firestorm. even though you have soul reaping until you get to higher levels you wont have enough attribute points to fully use its capacity.

An Ele isn't going to compliment a Necro's skills. Most peeps take Mesmer or monk because they do fit well. I went N/M and found it very effective. Changed to N/M and started farming.

You can changeprofessions later in the game no no great loss regardless of what you do. Oh, and a Necro will do just fine as a stand alone class to.

Good luck

Necro is one of those classes that can run very well using just its own skills.

Necro Monk well yes its handy for healing yourself and minions but you can do that with Necro skills.
Hard res is its main use except for specialist farming builds that use Monk skills a lot.

Necro Ranger was ok when the animal companion left a usable corpse no where near as useful now.

Necro Warrior never considered it so have no input there.

Necro mesmer was used when I ran a spitefull spirit build and wanted to get 2 of them off quickly, I find other skills work just as well so seldom go mesmer.

Necro Ele is the one I have been thinking of, I had it mind to use the area effect skills of both spheres to make a build that's heavily into protecting the party.
Probably Earth ele taking all the wards and then adding the necro circles you can make from fresh corpses to aid the party and drain the enemy.

Haven't tried it out yet but am hoping its a fun build and I am more into having fun in GW that having the strongest build.

For what it's worth, my necro is my main and I started out in prophecies too. I chose ele as my secondary and looking back I regret it. Monk would have been best, mesmer a close second. Granted, I was a pretty noobish when I first started, but around piken square I was regularly taking Flare with me LOL.

Monk suits a prophecies necro very well.

My first character was a necromancer that I made N/E in Prophecies. I deleted him and made a new one after one week, that one a N/Mo with the same name and even face. I just made him a bit shorter.

Although, looking back at it, it really wouldn't have mattered much if I'd kept him.

N/Mo felt better though, it was more roleplaying-worthy, and a more effective combo.

It depends on what you intend on doing as Glyph of Lessor energy would help on those big 15e and sacrfice with an MM build but most do go /Mo or /Mes.I would start off as blood Necro coming out of pre maybe /Mo would be better for the hard res.

GolE to help on sacrifice from [blood of the master] You're kidding right?

/Me has it's uses in controlled farming environment, but thats about all

There really isn't much synergy or use for /E stuff(HA tainted warder maybe.but we're talking current low level pve).Lessening energy cost of spells is somewhat pointless when soul reaping is ample.

But alas,I'm pretty sure some brightspark is going to post a build with [spiteful spirit] and [meteor shower] and defend how awesome it is....

There's absolutely no reason to bring glyph of lesser energy, necros already have the best energy management in PvE.

pre-eotn necro curse bar was practically all 10en & 15en
so yes...gole did help

but curse line has got better energy nowadays
it still helps especially when u include 10en pve skills

in terms of mm...gole helps oou+fiend builds

n/mo used to be hella weak
its only fairly decent now for prot spirit/aegis after the introduction of hm
but i'd leave that for a hero to do

n/me is pretty useless other than arcane echo
which has been replaced by 40/40 sets
the only thing its good for is an interupt
but i'd advise ymlad over a mes interupt

oh...and [spiteful spirit] + [meteor shower] > [blood of the master] + [heal area]

n/mo is almost as overated as w/mo is

/E was used a lot when the game first came out as for Glyph of Sacrifice for MMing as few MMs were using it and it was used in The Halls of Heros.I saw a lot of N/E back in early 05 and up till beginning of 06.

That maybe PvE but I have seen them used in GvG so what works in PvP is alway sure thing in PvE.Iam sure Necros have the energy to cast off 2 big 15e spells right away without anything dieing to lessen the amount being used.

Yes I do have a Necro.

Weren't we talking about [glyph of lesser energy]? [glyph of sacrifice]ing an amination? For what purpose? Why would you want your animations to recharge 30 seconds slower? Please explain that logic.

GvG and PvE are obviously different environments,PvE mobs are dumb, bunch up and generally die very fast,GvG can last 20+ mins, they dont bunch up,they're not dumb enough to either. Can't ever compare

lol

[Barbs][Mark of Pain][Enfeebling Blood]

Every other necro skill you could throw on there is nowhere near the power of the above and therefore very optional. Since EotN [Assassin's Promise] has taken over allowing you to spam PvE skills, but I'd otherwise be perfectly fine filling in with ele wards and KDs.

Wrong.

Low level characters usually don't have points to spare and can enormously benefit from maxxed att line: leftover in SR and GoLE untill they can put enough to SR to be actually effective with SR energy only (and by that time they would be nearing L20 and possibly able to switch secondaries, rendering any secondary choice moot).

So, IMHO, there is nothing wrong with starting as N/E. You can change secondaries later for reason.

And nothing wrong with N/Es doing whatever they do while splashing 9-10 points in earth for wards.
